Visitors Are Welcome!

Welcome to a Meeting for Worship of the Red River Friends. We are always pleased to have visitors.

For those of you who are not acquainted with how Friends worship, it might be helpful to know that our Meeting follows the tradition of the “unprogrammed” Friends, which means that we have no clergy, set readings, or prescribed rituals for our gathering.

Instead, when we arrive, we take a seat in the circle and begin to quiet our bodies and minds as we prepare to receive the “still, small voice” of the Spirit–a voice that can communicate with anyone who truly waits and listens. Each of us is alone in the listening, but also connected with and supported by all the others in the circle.

Sometimes we as a group will sit in complete silence for the whole hour we are worshiping. At other times, though, one or more people may be moved to speak out of the silence, sharing an insight, a prayer, or a concern.

At the end of the hour a designated person will close the Meeting. After greeting those present, we usually sit again for brief fellowship and an opportunity to verbalize any thoughts that were not spoken out of the silence.
